What is Pupil Premium Funding?

'Pupil Premium' is the name given to the additional monies, for publicly funded schools in England, given to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better, and close the gap between them and their peers.

The Pupil Premium is additional funding which is allocated to schools on the basis of the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point over the last six years (known as ‘Ever 6 FSM’). ​The funding is also for children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and the children of service personnel.

If you apply for Free School Meals, regardless of your child receiving this in Reception to Y2, you could be entitled to Pupil Premium funding that can support your child with their academics within school, but also support you with paying for uniform, music lessons and trips. 

Am I eligible?

Your child (in Reception to Y6) may be able to get Pupil Premium, including free school meals if you get any of the following:

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
• the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
• Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit

Children who get any of the above benefits in their own right (ie they get benefits payments directly, instead of through a parent or guardian) can also get free school meals.

As the Pegasus Partnership Trust was newly formed on March 1st 2019 a full review of expenditure will be shared after the first fulll year of academy operation in July 2020. This will include a full analysis of the impact of expenditure to date.
